Walz on Second Amendment

Governor Walz has performed a 180 degree reverse on the Second Amendment, despite formerly being endorsed by the NRA. He is now an aggressive advocate of an “Assault Weapons” ban.

As someone who served 24 years in the military, I know that assault weapons don’t belong in the streets of our neighborhoods. As a lifelong sportsman, I know that these laws to reduce senseless violence do nothing to infringe on the rights of responsible gun owners.

Governor Tim Walz

Governor Walz has implemented several gun control measures, including:

1. **Universal Background Checks**: These measures require background checks for all gun sales, including those between private individuals, closing a loophole that allowed some gun sales to occur without background checks.

2. **Red Flag Law**: This law allows family members, roommates, or law enforcement to petition a court to temporarily remove firearms from an individual who is considered to be a danger to themselves or others.

3. **Ban on Ghost Guns**: This measure prohibits the sale and possession of “ghost guns,” which are firearms that are built from kits or 3D printers and do not have serial numbers, making them untraceable.

4. **Waiting Period**: A waiting period has been introduced between the purchase and delivery of firearms, providing a cooling-off period that may help prevent impulsive acts of violence.

5. **Minimum Age Requirement**: The minimum age to purchase firearms has been raised, aiming to ensure that young adults are more mature and responsible before they can legally own a gun.

These measures are intended to enhance public safety by making it more difficult for potentially dangerous individuals to acquire firearms and by providing mechanisms to temporarily disarm individuals who are at risk of harming themselves or others.
